THE GOOD NEWS: Mom got a good night's sleep last night. We all know how critical sleep is to the healing process and she hadn't slept at all the previous 2 nights. So sleep is GOOD! (Thanx Bruce for sacrificing your New Years Eve celebrations to be by Mom's side throughout the night last night and Bret for staying with her all day New Years Eve Day!)
THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS: Her aortic fibrillation continues (heart rate not steady) even though her heart rate is being kept within an acceptable range (75-95). But the biggest concern right now is that her kidneys dropped from functioning at 25% down to 15% overnight (with her BUN levels and her creatinine levels nearly doubled last night and her urine output is much lower than it should be) and they order dialysis when kidneys get down to around 8%. Her kidney doctor, Dr. Bjordahl, came in today and ordered 1) an ultrasound of her kidneys and bladder to see if there are any blood clots blocking her output, 2) dopamine to get her heart pumping harder, 3) urine analysis to see if she is getting blood flow, 4) a big dosage of diuretics to try and get her kidneys moving and 5) getting her off her catheter ASAP.
Bottom line: We hope her kidneys will improve now that they've got her blood pressure up but they have to get better or she's going to have trouble.
