Yesterday was a struggling day. Mom slept much of the day, especially after her thoracentesis. However, as Curt mentioned in his blog, she has seemed to breathe a lot better (who wouldn't, when about 3 1/2 lb. of fluid is no longer pressing on your lungs!). However, she had a great evening. Curt brought his projector over and we watched Youtube videos on the blinds in Mom's room. It was a fun night for all of us "hospital-dwellers"! She had a good night albeit short, and got some good sleep.
Through the night, Mom's blood pressure levels were fairly low, though not dangerously so. However, her oxygen saturation was much better, and even more amazingly enough, her urine changed almost overnight from the very low bloody output that she's had since the second day in the hospital to a clear yellow output that was greater in 3 or so hours than it was all day long yesterday. We are SOO happy! The nephrologist, Dr. Rich, is cautiously optimistic, and is holding off on any dialysis treatments to see what the kidneys do. He said the renal shock could have been caused by medication (he mentioned the Lotrimin that she received the first day she came to the hospital), and since she seems to be super sensitive to certain medications and takes a long time to get them out of her body, it may have taken this long for the kidneys to wake up again. Her heart valve surgeon came in this morning for the first time (he didn't know she had come back in) and seemed to feel this was just a temporary setback. The cardiologist agrees with him. We're just trying to find the perfect combination of being patient to let her heal, while being pushy to get her better. She certainly wants to come home...
Now to get Mom up walking and hopefully she will strengthen that body of hers and get back home. Her walking partner is waiting for her, and she's got a family reunion this summer that she is looking forward to. These are all incentives to bring her home (as if she didn't already want to get home to her "Consie" condo). We are all looking forward to that great day!
Dear Janice, we have been so concerned about you when you had to return to the hospital, but it sounds like you are beginning to rally again and all are hopeful that you will get past this setback and return home again soon. Ramon and I love you dearly and remember you each day in our thoughts and prayers. We called to come and see you on New Years day and checked with the RS when there was no answer. We sure do look forward to a short but good visit with you as soon and you feel up to it. We have your video to return to you also. Please continue to get well!!! You are precious to so many!
