The 2nd biggest day

This is the second biggest day in Mom's life this year...the first being that day that she will get to go home for good. But this is the day that she will leave the hospital and NOT have to come back for a LONG time!!
The catheter is out again, the shower is over with and Mom is resting peacefully until Aspen Ridge West comes to get her. All the paperwork is done and all is packed up from her room. Her clothes are laid out and her departure time is at 11:45 AM. They are in the process of taking out her PICC line and heart monitors. Then she can get dressed and all ready to go.
Mom had a hard night last night. She couldn't sleep and her legs were jumpy. Steph said they didn't get much sleep last night. I think she must have been nervous about this new step in her recovery. I don't blame her. As much as she has not wanted to be in the hospital, the hospital has been safe for her. She will be facing new unknowns and it's kind of scary...for all of us. But we have faith that Heavenly Father has gotten us this far, and he'll continue to be with her.
So where is Aspen Ridge West? It's about 5 minutes from here...on 54th S. and 7th W...just the same distance from I-15 on the other side of the freeway as the hospital is on this side. The facility is about 3 years old and is a small facility...38 beds, which I think will lend itself to a more cozy atmosphere. Curt and I went by there last night as we were leaving the hospital, just to check it out. That's the way I am...gotta have that visual. I'm not sure we have a choice of where to go, since our first choice isn't available until Saturday and Mom doesn't want to wait in the hospital that long. But this was a very nice place...
She will have a private room with bed, recliner chair, TV cabinet with clothes closets on either side, a small table with chairs, a sink, small microwave, small fridge and private bathroom with all the handicapped amenities. She will have a private telephone and wireless internet throughout. There is a really nice rehab room with lots of OTs and PTs to help her get stronger. The dining room is very nice. There are small tables around just big enough for 4 chairs, and a few without chairs (presumably for residents with wheelchairs). She can eat in her room, but they prefer to have her eat with the other residents because it gets her up and moving. Guests can eat with the residents for $5 a meal (pay the kitchen). There is also a private room with a large table for 8-10 guests that can be reserved for family and guest groups. They discourage overnight guests, because they want them to not become too dependent on a close family member. It's their way of making the residents become more independent...or maybe not being there to call them on anything that they do... but they did say maybe we could stay the first night or two until she gets used to the new surroundings. I also asked about visiting hours and they said there were no restrictions, but they recommend visiting only in the evenings because they will be pretty busy during the days with rehab, etc.
