Baby steps

I’m here at the hospital. Dr. Madsen had already been in before I got here, so not all the questions got answered that we wanted to ask, other than the fact that he wants more fluid off of her and that she probably won’t leave the hospital before Friday. He said that fluid is more important to him than the amount of oxygen she can handle...I’m sure because of chance of pneumonia, and if the fluids go down, the breathing should get better. Personally, I think Dr. Madsen doesn’t want to take the responsibility for Mom’s health condition when he hasn’t been the one following her. Mom still thinks it’s a conspiracy.
New baby steps:
– Mom got up and went to the bathroom without her walker. Oxygen still dropped to 64 after her huffing and puffing on the throne and she had to work to get it back up again.
– Mom’s oxygen needs are down to 3 or 4 when she is at rest. It goes up to 7 or 8 when she’s walking around or other exercise.
– Last night in the middle of the night, she had one brief moment when she actually felt well. She said it was a strange sensation that she hasn’t felt for a long time, and it was pretty brief. But what a great feeling for her!! Maybe it gave her hope that things are getting better and she is getting stronger.

Hopefully Bruce will be able to join me when the case worker comes to talk about Mom’s extended care. He’s our insurance and financial man, and that would be very helpful.
