Turning the corner

Today is going to be a GOOD day!! Mom had a great night sleep...well as much as you can get when you've got people coming in all night. She probably got at least 4- 4 1/2 hours of sleep at one whack, and as any new mother knows, if you can get a four hour block of sleep, you can handle about anything!
This morning, Dr. Rich came in with the good news that Mom's creatinine had dropped from 4.9 to 4.6. Her BUN had also dropped to 76, down from 80. Not only that, but her urine output yesterday doubled from her numbers the day before and quadrupled from the day before that. He really feels like she's made the turn and everything is beginning to mobilize. He's not starting the coumadin back yet to be cautious, but probably will start tomorrow if her numbers continue to drop, which he feels like they are. He said she needs to get her numbers moving downward and her strength to build up and they might send her home on Sunday or Monday. Whoopee!!!
Dr. El Haddi concurred with Dr. Rich's diagnosis. He feels like she has to feel lighter with the fluid off her lung cavity, which has allowed her deflated lung capacity to increase and with the mobilization of her fluids. She's taking 80 cc of lasix twice a day so the fluids are finally coming off.
Mom is very positive that things are going in this direction. She now has a goal to work toward, and she even got a walk in "around the block" this morning with me after breakfast. She's getting a good nap now, so that's good. Maybe Karalee (the PT) will come in and walk her again. Yes, it will be a good day!!
